"(almost) everyone is secretly, actually LGBQ**" kiiiiind of misses some point somewhere but I’m having trouble articulating what, exactly

**we all know which of those four tends to do this, yeah?

hint: it's bi heterosexism for ts i guess my point is something like this could expand the rhetoric on what are LGBQ* experiences/issues but in practice is leads to an unfocused notion of how to combat heterosexism that dovetails with notions that we're doing this to ourselves or each other in isolation it dismantles the notion of heterosexism as oppressive system in favor of an absence of an oppressor class

All of the general opinions people of color have about monoracially White Irish are cool, but…

Please understand why it is inappropriate to use anti-PoC violence by the UVF/UDA as a barometer for how to think about White Irish people.

There’s a lot of stuff onmy dash about which violent/radical/etc groups are religious and which just coincide with religious identities/conflicts.

I’m just going to add that it’s really difficult to understand the KKK as anything other than a creation of either WASPs (note the P) or people deeply collaborating with WASPs. They are not separable from ideologies desiring to make the US a specifically White and Protestant country. FFS, look at the imagery of burning crosses, their religious identity isn’t separable from the broader whole. We can talk about it being (especially today) second fiddle or increasingly a liability for the KKK, but that’s not the same as it not existing?

Alternatively, the conflict in northern Ireland may involve a similar divide between White protestants and White Catholics (among others*), but it is vehemently rooted in an ethnic conflict over land ownership, civil rights, and colonialism. There is at times a specifically religious tone to rhetoric and imagery, but religion exists in this context as that of the colonizing state, imposed as a support system exploiting crises aggravated by colonial rule.

*Yes, they’re there.

Milk is binary. Chocolate Milk has a modifier on the term milk. Therefore chocolate milk is not milk. And what is not milk, is injustice. It’s fucking corrupt from the beginning.

nadroleon you’re making me laugh so loud with this I’m going to wake up my roommates.

Stop calling ISIS the Islamic State.

You guys will go upon lengths and jump hoops to deny that the KKK are a Christian influenced group but won’t blink to say Muslim and terrorist in the same sentence.

The language you use matters.

Actually the KKK’s broader political ideology literally doesn’t make sense without acknowledging the larger Protestant paranoia towards Catholic, Jewish, and even Muslim (and other) immigrants to the US, so no they were (and to a certain extent remain) a group with a specific religious identity which I really don’t know how we could talk about *not* being Christian?

First off, y’all should read this article about the intractability of (often highly anti-Black and otherwise racialized) police violence in Oakland.

Secondly, if you want my thoughts about the weird random Irish-related moment, they’re under the cut.

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvester have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.
